“Completely addicted to the Mini-Transat!”

Following on from his 4th place in 2015, Axel Tréhin is one of the hot favourites in the prototype category this year. He has one of the very latest boats in the fleet. “I’ve participated in the Mini-Transat twice before on wrecks that I’ve done up and this time I want to line up for the start with the very latest prototype. In this way, I built my own new offshore bird. Her number, 945, is not a random choice: it’s the sum total of my two previous boats: 229 + 716”, explains the composites ace. “To complete Tartine in her entirety from scratch took 3,292 hours, which equates to more than 50 hours a week for 66 consecutive weeks! It was worthwhile though, because good things take time and to realise your dreams you have to get on the job!”

Axel Tréhin is very passionate about the Mini-Transat, an event he has devoted a whole section of his life to. “Everything about this human and sporting adventure fascinates me and I totally adhere to the values it continues to convey”, he says. “I just love the very strong mutual support that is forged between the skippers together with the constant technical innovation on the boats, the confrontation with the raw beauty of nature and the absence of communications with the outside world, which forces you to constantly dig deep to the very pit of your resources in order to excel. In short, I’m completely addicted… The difference this time is that I hope to win it too!”
