Passionate about sailing, and more precisely offshore racing, Thomas de Dinechin has always been a fervent supporter of the major events like the Vendée Globe, the Solitaire du Figaro and the Route du Rhum, especially vicariously via the social networks. “One day, I said to myself why not me? Why not experience all that from the inside?” explains the trained engineer, who today provides expert advice for a management consultancy specialising in the supply chain in and around Paris.
So, what’s he expecting to get out of this experience? “First and foremost, I want to go all the way and enjoy myself. I know I’m going to learn a massive amount about sailing, as well as myself. I’m going to try to surpass myself and unravel a whole stack of unknowns, but I’m really eager to see if the open ocean appeals to me over a lengthy duration. There’s clearly a deep sense of adventure in this project and it’s important to me”, stresses the sailor from Yvelines in northern France, who is skippering Pierrite – Adameo, a Pogo 3 that has previously passed through the hands of Sébastien Guého and Tanguy Bouroullec, with which he has high hopes of making the Top 10.
