A project manager at Multiplast in Vannes, Romain Bigot has decided to take some time out and fully devote himself to his Mini Transat campaign. It’s a project that’s been running through his head since he did some training within the scope of his course at the ICAN in Lille, alongside Gwénolé Gahinet, who was preparing for the Mini Transat 2013 at the time. “It is at that point that I discovered the Class and a little seed began to quietly germinate”, explains the engineer who, prior to that, had only participated in the odd bit of sail training in the Bay of Morlaix, together with a handful of cruises completed with Les Glénans sailing school and a few student races like the EDHEC and the Spi Ouest France.
“My goal during the race is to have fun at sea. However, I am aiming to perform well so I’m keen to make it into the Top 10, or even the Top 5 would suit me”, comments the skipper of Impulso, an Etienne Bertrand design launched in 2011 for the architect himself. “It’s a boat which has already participated in the Mini Transat four times and I know her inside out having completely stripped her down this winter. I know she’s reliable and that I can trust her”. So, any apprehension about the prospect of a first big passage across the Atlantic? “For now, I’m still in a kind of carefree bubble and I hope that the same mindset will prevail till the finish. I’m taking things as they come, without asking myself too many questions”.
