Though he’s always done a bit of dinghy sailing, and above all a great deal of cruising, it’s an experience he had in Class40 in the English Channel, which proved to be the real trigger that prompted Rémi Lamouret to head to the start  of the Mini Transat. That’s the point where I said to myself that it was time to have a crack at the offshore racing adventure”, explains the sailor from Nouvelle Aquitaine, who’d had the idea of crossing the Atlantic ruminating in the back of his mind for several years.

After sailing across and along the length and breadth of the Arcachon Basin, I very quickly wanted to go and see what there was further afield!” admits the skipper of the Ofcet 6.50 Gironde au Large which, it’s worth noting, is none other than the boat with which his coach at the Pôle Mini 6.50 training cluster in La Rochelle, Julien Pulvé, finished second in the Mini Transat 2015. On a personal level, I hope to make the passage without any major glitches, with the focus on fun and a big party at the finish!” says the videographer working for the departmental council of the Gironde, one of his campaign’s main partners. First and foremost, I’m heading off for the adventure, but obviously, if I secure a good place at the end of it, that would be a bonus!”
