“A long-term strategy”

At 27, Antoine Oulhen has already amassed a wealth of nautical experience. As such, the sailor’s aim is to hone his navigational knowledge through his participation in the Mini-Transat La Boulangère. “The Mini Transat is part of my long-term strategy in my maritime education; it will enable me to continue learning out on the water! This race is one of the best ways to up your game, whether it be in terms of navigation or technique. On top of that, the Mini 6.50 appears to be the best possible medium as it involves a class of kindly seafarers.”

The Vector 6.50 he’ll be sailing attracted his attention due to her numerous technical features, most notable of which are her scow bow and sleek hull shape. “I wanted a high-performance boat and I thought it would be more interesting to set sail on my first Mini-Transat aboard an evolutionary boat, so I quickly pinned my hopes on the Vector 6.50! She posts impressive speeds, peaking at 100 km/hr! Well okay, that was on the journey between Poland (the boat’s homeland) and Aber Wrac’h, but even so”!

To fill the void and the solitude, Antoine is sure to carry some tunes aboard, but not just any old thing. “It’s got to be jazz! I’m lucky enough to have some friends who are jazz musicians so I’m banking on them to put together one hell of a playlist for me and I’ll also take one or two books with me, probably one by Joseph Conrad and a collection of poetry.”
