During his debut performance in the event two years ago, Miguel Angel Rondon Gonzales had to contend with numerous technical issues, which certainly didn’t make the task any easier. Despite that, he still managed to complete his transatlantic passage and now he’s back for more this year! I told myself that 60 was a good age for starting up with my nonsense again!” jests the Spaniard, an entrepreneur in the tourism sector in the Canaries for more than thirty years, who hopes to have a smoother run in this year’s adventure. “I hope to be able to make the most of the race. I love nights studded with stars in the middle of the Atlantic, but I don’t just want to be there to get lost in contemplation. My goal is to really push the envelope with my boat during the race”, explains the skipper, who has traded in his former Vector 6.50 for a more modern equivalent. It’s safe to say then that the sailor from Tenerife has a competitive spirit. Indeed, his track record includes a part in his country’s pre-Olympic windsurfing team with a view to the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, in 1984, a 5th place in the European Championship and then 7th place in the world in the discipline.
