Born in 2002 in Bielefeld, the capital of the Ostwestfalen-Lippe region of Germany, Melwin Fink is lining up for the start of the Mini Transat EuroChef at the tender age of 19, making him and Basile Bougnon, the youngest competitors in this 23rd edition. “I hope I manage to finish the race without any major problems and in a good position. The Mini means a great deal to me. I’ve been dreaming about it forever and today it’s finally a reality!” enthuses the young German sailor who started out dinghy sailing (Optimist, 420 and 470), then relished several experiences on big boats in the Baltic Sea, giving himself what you need to succeed.
This is evidenced by the fact that, having just completed his law studies in Kiel, he opted to settle in Lorient to join the Pôle Course au Large offshore racing cluster created by the town. “I’ve been very intensively preparing for the race for the past two and a half years and my main objective is a Top 10 position in the overall ranking”, adds the skipper of the Pogo 3 Sign for Com, who has managed to regularly raise his game since his arrival on the circuit in 2019, gradually moving up into that top ten spot in the pre-season races. As such, he’s certainly not being overambitious!
