“To share and inspire”

For Clément Machetel, participating in the Mini-Transat La Boulangère owes nothing to chance. Passionate about the sea, Clément started out windsurfing at eight years of age in northern Brittany and he has a fine watersports CV. A national windsurfing hope at 12, he went on to do sports studies in sailing in La Baule before having a crack at the Figaro circuit for his first singlehanded race around Brittany at the age of 18.

At 41, Clément, who now works for the company Helly Hansen, was keen to “realise a childhood dream, get back into competition, share an adventure with associates at the APRIL Marine company that’s sponsoring him and to inspire others”. As such, he’s chosen to line up for the Mini-Transat La Boulangère. “It’s an offshore racing school aboard mini racing boats. It’s a race that fascinates and inspires, which the biggest names in sailing have participated in, and it’s an adventure that requires unfailing commitment.”

To pull this off, Clément has opted for a Verdier designed Pogo 3, number 913. “A safe and reliable boat that doesn’t disappoint”.
