Open Bic, Equipe, 420, Laser, Fireball… Lucas Valenza-Troubat built up his experience on various boats at the Club d’Excellence of Ile-de-France. All while going on numerous cruises and doing various deliveries with his family. I was lacking the experience of sailing single-handed, but I’ve had that in mind for quite some time. It started when I read some articles on the Mini Transat back in junior high school recalls the young sailor. Lucas graduated from ESTACA Aeronautical. After his first professional experience within Sam Davies’ Initiatives-Coeur Team, he now works as an aeronautical engineer specialized in appendages for Gitana Team. “With work I’ve been able to sail quite a lot. But I also got the incredible opportunity of getting Raphaël Censier’s boat when he left for New Zealand” explains Lucas. His motivations for the Mini Transat? “On a personal note, I think that finishing a transatlantic is a good challenge. But I don’t have any performance objective other than finishing with the satisfaction of a job well done. On a professional note, I’m convinced that it’ll be a very interesting experience for truly understand what really the open ocean is. To sum it up it is a double-sided project” he says. And which a profile such as his, he is naturally competing in the Prototype category.
