At only 20 years old, Lilian Geolle is one of the youngest sailors in this 2021 Mini Transat. “I had already tried to set up a project twice but they both failed. I’ve learned a lot since then and this time around I’ve managed to get things going” explains the sailor from Montpellier. He’s deployed a considerable amount of energy and has left nothing to chance to be able to be on the starting line on this race. “I bargained with my university to be able to do my undergraduate degree in mechanics over two years so that I could move to Concarneau at the beginning of the year in order to train. I’m fully focused on my objective” says Lilian. He sees the Mini Transat as a steppingstone for a career in offshore sailing. “I started racing quite late, in 2015. And I was already intrigued by the Mini Transat” he recalls. Although he’d often sailed on the family boat cruising between Corsica and Sardinia, he only started racing at the age of 15. First in Open 5.70s then on the SL 16 double handed catamaran with Arthur Perez with whom he was French National Champion in 2019. “As of now, my longest experience offshore has been the Les Sables – Les Açores en Baie de Morlaix last year. My objective is to enjoy the experience as much as possible all while staying competitive in the unofficial ranking of pointy-nose boats” explains Lilian. He will try to get his old Tip Top (2006) in the Top 20 of the Production category.
