“Finish writing a page”

Two years ago, Erwan Le Mené set sail in the Mini-Transat La Boulangère with the aim of securing a podium position, but the leg between Las Palmas in Gran Canaria and Le Marin saw all his hopes shattered. “I hit something two days out from the Canaries. I pulled off the boat’s transom and she was close to filling with water. I took refuge in Dakar. I deemed it wiser not to head back out to sea as my focus was on a performance. I didn’t want to set sail again eight days later, behind everyone else, on a beat to get past Cape Verde and risk breaking the boat again”.

As such, Erwan has chosen to return to the event this year with the same ambitions and the same boat, a Lombard design, with which he’s just won the Transgascogne. “It’s not a revenge match as I wasn’t beaten on a competitive front. I just want to finish writing a page. I hit something, I was unlucky, so I’m hoping I’ll have luck on my side this year. The boat’s going well and we’re getting increasingly in tune with one another.”

Winner of both legs of the Transgascogne and the Plastimo Lorient Mini en 2019, he’ll be one of the men to beat in the prototype category.
