Having arrived on the Mini 6.50 circuit five years ago, Julien Hatin has attempted to line up for the start of the Mini Transat on two previous occasions. Though his first two attempts, in 2017 and in 2019, unfortunately had to be shelved due to a lack of resources to bring his campaign to a successful conclusion, it’s all systems go now for the sailor from the Calvados department in northern France.
“Today, I’m lucky to have the support of the Région Normandie as well as Les Entreprises du Paysage. All the planets are effectively aligned and I’m savouring the opportunity”, explains the computer analyst, who shares the strong values of the professional organisation dedicated to the landscaping profession, such as a passion for fresh ventures and hard work. “The professionals who create, develop and maintain green spaces have a daily battle on their hands, where they’re constantly having to brave the elements and make sacrifices to advance a cause. Ultimately, it’s the same thing when you’re at sea”, points out the skipper, who has now upgraded the Tip-Top of his early days to a Pogo 3.
“I’m not gunning for performance, rather it’s a quest for a job well done”, assures the sailor from Caen, who put in his first tacks at 12-13 years of age, within the scope of her school near Langrune-sur-Mer, without ever really getting hooked by the competitive bug. “The main driver for me is to get to Guadeloupe having had an absolute blast”.
