Jean Cruse is yet another sailor for whom the Mini Transat is a childhood dream. “It’s an event that has been swirling round and round my head for the past fifteen years or so. I’ve always been attracted to the major offshore races. In this way, I’ve always closely monitored the progress of the skippers in the Vendée Globe and the Mini appeared to me to be a great adventure that is affordable”, admits the Parisian, who has wanted to hit the green button on the project on several occasions, before having to deal with funding issues or professional constraints.
This year, the planets are finally aligned for the ship broker, who has specialised in offshore oil fields and wind farms for the past 13 years. “To be at the start is already a success, making it to the other side would be another, whilst ranking highly would be a bonus”, explains Jean, who would be thrilled by a Top 15 spot in Guadeloupe, which would certainly give his second Atlantic crossing a special flavour, his first having been completed in cruising mode with friends, during a return delivery trip from the Transquadra race. A bonus fact, the skipper of the Pogo 3 Ini Mini Myni Mo is in an ‘offstage’ relationship with one of his rivals, Cécile Andrieu, which should give him some added incentive to switch things up a gear!
