The Mini on my mind!
A sailing instructor at the Société des Régates de Concarneau, François created his own offshore racing training structure in 2016. Meantime, the skipper has also been carving out a wake in the Class Mini. In this way, in 2018 François won the Mini 6.50 championship and Les Sables- Les Açores - Les Sables race. This year, he’s already secured two victories on the circuit: the first in the Pornichet Select, the second in the Mini en Mai, making him one of the main pretenders to victory in Martinique.
On 22 September 2019, he’ll be lining up for the start in La Rochelle of the Mini-Transat La Boulangère with the aim of going for gold in the prototype category. “I’ve already participated in the race, back in 2015, but I suffered breakage and had to make a stopover in Cape Verde. However, I still insisted on completing the race. That first experience has served me well in my current project. It’s often said that the first transatlantic passage is an adventure and that the second is a competition.”
As such, it’s with a competitive spirit that the ice hockey fan and inhabitant of Concarneau in north-west Brittany is tackling the event. And to make his dreams of victory come true, François will obviously be able to count on one of the most high-performance boats of the fleet. There is still the unknown quantity of a singlehanded race run without any means of communication aboard of course, which is a rarity these days. “We must be ready to deal with whatever problem presents itself. In the current world, cutting yourself off from the world for a fortnight is no mean feat!”
