After many years spent racing a sailing dinghy double-handed, which culminated in some great performances, including French number two in 2010 and then a fine 12th place in a world 420 championship in 2011, Hugo Lauras switched to racer-cruisers. A J80, First 7.50, Grand Surprise and First 31.7 ranked among his weapons of choice, aboard which he regularly placed well, especially in events like the Course Croisière EDHEC, which he won in 2017 as a student at the ENSTA Bretagne, a graduate and post graduate engineering school and research institute, within the context of a Master’s degree specialising in marine engineering / naval architecture and offshore.

Up next, in 2019, having completed his degree, the young Parisian sailor opted to launch his Mini Transat campaign. It’s a big challenge for me. My professional activity is thrilling, but very time-consuming. I’ve only managed to complete the minimum number of races to qualify, so I haven’t had as much time on the water as I would have liked”, explains the skipper of the Pogo 2 Hugo au Large, who today works at Naviwatt, a company designing and producing 100% recyclable electrically-powered boats at Le Crouesty in south-west Brittany. I’ll be happy if I make it to the other side without any major hassle. I’ll endeavour to do my best with my old boat and sail as clean a race as possible and make sure I never give up”.
