For his first Atlantic crossing, Thomas has opted for a boat steeped in history and very familiar with being sailed by skippers who have managed to make a name for themselves in offshore racing. Indeed, this Pogo 2, number 539, is the first Mini with which Stéphane Le Diraison – now an IMOCA skipper – finished 2nd in the Mini-Transat 2007. Designed by Groupe Finot, this little boat suffered a less happy fate in the hands of Ian Lipinski in 2015 since she capsized and dismasted on the first night of the leg between Sada and Pointe-à-Pitre. In 2017, she took the start of the Mini-Transat La Boulangère with one Ambrogio Becarria, who got her all the way to Le Marin.

COO of a company delivering fresh produce, Thomas is completely smitten by this little machine. “I met Stéphane Le Diraison in Boulogne-Billancourt. He’s the patron of my Mini project. I chose this boat as she’s excellent and has a widely proven track record. Furthermore, financially she’s a more attractive prospect than a Pogo 3. For my first transatlantic, I couldn’t hope for better”.
