An engineer specialised in High Performance Computing at the SchedMD company for the past four years, Felip Moll Marques has decided to take some time out from his professional life and line up for the start of the Mini Transat EuroChef. “To my mind, this race is synonymous with strong values related to sacrifice and effort, whilst being a highly comprehensive way to learn all about sailing and about life itself. I believe that the sense of adventure it gives you cannot be matched, because it’s just you against the elements. It’s a sensation that only those who sail singlehanded on very austere boats like these can understand and it’s fantastic to be in such close contact with nature in this way”, explains the Spaniard, who lives in Ciutadella de Menorca, on the west coast of Minorca, in the Balearics. Arriving on the Mini 6.50 scene in 2017, Felip, who’s taken Optimist and then Laser Radial classes and loves cruising on the family boat, straightway saw the appeal of the Class’ inclusive spirit, which is a reassuring sentiment at the dawn of his first singlehanded transatlantic passage.
“Ideally, I’d like to be able to complete the race without incident. My worst fear would be to hit an object and be forced to retire, but I’m sure it’s going to be a fabulous event”, confirms the skipper of the Pogo 2 Alleva, who is hoping to make the very most of every second at sea, as well as finish well placed in relation to the boats of the same generation as his.
