“When you put your mind to something, you can do anything!”
It was in the fantastic Glénan archipelago off Brittany that Guillaume Coupé put in his first tacks and developed his passion for the sea. Becoming a sailing instructor and then trainer, he’s spent many years passing on this passion to others. It was in becoming a member of the crew for his friend Jérôme Lhermitte that Guillaume discovered the delights of sailing a Mini 6.50. The two guys participated in several races on the circuit together and when his mate completed the Mini Transat 2017, Guillaume felt that the time was right to focus on his own project. “When you put your mind to something, you can do anything!” as the saying goes.
A project engineer in naval maintenance, Guillaume Coupé informed his employer, CNN MCO, of his aim to compete in the Mini Transat La Boulangère 2019, which would require a few adjustments. Not only did the company agree to his plans, it has also gone on to become one of the main partners for Guillaume’s project.
Guillaume is sailing with a Pogo 3 (Verdier design) launched in 2016, on which Yannick Le Clech finished 9th in the Mini Transat 2017. “She’s a versatile, high-performance and demanding boat so that makes things interesting”, beams Guillaume, who is living out a childhood dream. “The Mini Transat is a personal, competitive and human challenge”, he says. “It’s about finding yourself through solitude, the joy of making your own way across the water, the sunsets and sunrises, taking the time to think about yourself and about others and the constant exploration of the Ocean.”
