Cutting her teeth on a sports dinghy (Equipe then 420) in Ouistreham, Colombine Blondet first got into sailing cruiser racers in the Baie de Seine, whilst completing her interior design studies. The end of the course saw her take off for Mauritius to do a work placement in her field of activity, which resulted in a complete U-turn. “Once on site, I met a person specialised in fibreglass septic tanks and water tanks, as well as elements made of resin. Having worked with her for a while, upon my return to France I was keen to create objects using pieces of recycled boats. In this way, I ended up in Lorient, since that’s where the majority of offshore racing boats are located”, commented the Norman, who quickly went on to join Isabelle Joschke’s racing stable as a trainee in communication, sharing the Transat Jacques Vabre 2017 with the Franco-German sailor. “This experience enabled me to have my first dabble in the offshore racing universe”, explains the skipper of Darewomen – Motion Studio, who is clearly always on the go. She straightaway began training to become a member of the shore crew for a race boat.

“After a while, it became increasingly difficult watching the others go out sailing whilst I remained on the dock. As such, I took the plunge and bought a boat”, explains the sailor. She set her heart on a Manuard prototype launched in 2009, which will be lining up for the start of the Mini Transat for the sixth time. “I’m aware that I’ve cut things a bit fine in my preparation. My primary goal will be to make it to the other side and party with all my mates in Guadeloupe, including Sébastien Pebelier, my rival as well as my boss at Décosail!”
