After making a transatlantic crossing with friends between Uruguay and France in 2012, whilst studying at the French school of political science, Cécile Andrieu is only now rekindling her ties with racing that she let slide after her secondary school years. “After tacking this first offshore experience onto some dinghy sailing and windsurfing earlier on in life, I began competing in IRC and J80 and then match racing, whilst keeping a dream to compete in Mini 6.50 on a slow boil”, explains the sailor from La Rochelle, who finally made the leap and bought a Pogo 3 in 2020, and quickly produced some stellar results on the circuit.
Her most notable achievements include a 3rd place in the Duo Concarneau with her brother, Nicolas, last year, along with a 2nd place in the Mini Fastnet this season, with Rémi Aubrun. “Though there’s no mistaking that I’m competitive, I’m not setting sail within that context. My main goal is to make it to the other side, having maxed out on fun. To be on the start line after these last two years where I’ve had to learn everything on my own, is already a bit of a victory in itself”, admits the skipper of Groupe Adre who, having worked at the French embassies in New Zealand and the USA, today holds a post at Business France. The latter isan agency in charge of helping French companies with their international development and international investments in France, as well as the promotion of the country’s economic appeal and image. A bonus fact: Cécile’s rivals out on the racetrack include her life partner, Jean Cruse.
