“A personal challenge”

Having just passed fifty, Alessio Campriani is setting off on his first Mini-Transat. “I’ve been following this race for years, but I live in the middle of Italy near Perugia, so the training centres are too far away. I couldn’t get to Barcelona or the Atlantic coast. Recently though, Michele Zambelli opened a training hub in the Adriatic Sea, so I went for it”, explains the Italian sailor, who has purchased a Pogo 2 for his project. “A production boat seemed more affordable than a proto”, he says.

Alessio isn’t putting himself under any pressure for a result. “For me, the Mini is a personal challenge rather than a competition against others. It’s an opportunity to sail singlehanded and learn more about sailing.”
