Three words to describe Benjamin Costa’s Mini Transat? “objective, learning, dream”. And so the scene is set by the skipper of the Pogo 2 Mini Malist. When he arrived on the Mini 6.50 circuit in 2019 with a background in dinghy sailing spanning many years, together with a few seasons as assistant sailing instructor at a sailing school, multiple cruises between France and Turkey via Greece and Croatia, as well as a double-handed transatlantic passage to the Bahamas, the Parisian’s objective was to make his competition debut.
From that moment on, he was hooked and, quietly but surely, he’s made it to the start of this 23rd edition of the Mini Transat. However, his ambitions remain modest. “I hope to be able to enjoy myself, not experience too much breakage and be satisfied at the finish, as much with the experience as the result”, explains the IT developer, whose focus will be the official match between the boats with ‘pointy’ noses. “My goal will be to leave as many boats as possible in my wake at the finish in Guadeloupe”, concludes Benjamin, who intends to make the most of these 4,050 miles of singlehanded sailing to raise his game and, as ever, keep moving onwards and upwards.
