Matteo Sericano, 20th Proto into Saint-François: “either you win, or you learn, but you never lose!”
Matteo Sericano (1011) crossed the finish line of the second leg of the 23rd edition of the Mini Transat EuroChef in 20th place in the Prototype fleet this Tuesday 16 of November at 12h 12min 25s (UTC). In this way, the skipper of Gigali took 17 days 22 hours 12 minutes and 25 seconds to complete the 2,700 miles of the course between Santa Cruz de La Palma and Saint-François. His combined race time for the two legs equates to 28 days 19 hours 28 minutes 47 seconds.
“It was tough to decide which route to take. My option didn’t work very well, but that’s the name of the game in sport: either you win, or you learn, but you never lose! I’ve learned a great lesson and I’ve had a fantastic experience.
I really made the most of the passage. I took the time to look at the stars and the sea. The solitude didn’t weigh heavily at all. After a few days you realise that being alone is nice.
I’ve very happy to have made the finish. It’s strange, because it heralds the end of a four-year campaign. In 2019, I wasn’t able to finish the race due to hitting a UFO so I’m all the happier to be here. It’s the end of a long work-up and the start of a new adventure, hopefully in Class40!”
