Irina Gracheva (800 – Path), 5th Proto into Saint-François : “Happy to have managed to go all the way”
Iirina Gracheva crossed the finish line of the second leg of the 23rd edition of the Mini Transat EuroChef in 5th place in the prototype fleet this Saturday 13 November at 19h 41min 55s (UTC). In this way, the skipper of Path took 15 days 05 hours 51 minutes and 55 seconds to complete the 2,700 miles of the course between Santa Cruz de La Palma and Saint-François, with an average speed of 7.01 knots. His combined race time for the two legs equates to 22 days 17 hours, 34 minutes 29 seconds.
“I’m very happy to complete the race. After dismasting during my first participation two years ago, my primary goal this year was clearly to manage to go all the way. I’ve pulled that off and with a fantastic result to boot! I’m really very happy! I dreamed of a Top 5 and I’ve finished 4th. It’s unexpected almost. The southern option was clearly the best one in this second leg. I’m very curious to see the cartography and discover the others’ courses. Out on the water, I was convinced that the further south we were, the more pressure we’d have. However, I knew that that also meant a longer course. That said, I didn’t really have to think twice about it. I was certain about my choice and once I was committed to my option, all I had to do was follow through on it in any case. It is massively satisfying for me to round off a campaign in this way after committing to it four years ago. It’s involved a great deal of work, a lot of sacrifices and self-denial too. What’s next? I don’t really know too much about that yet. I’m initially going to get my life back in order, then we’ll see what happens. I hope it’ll be something fantastic!”
