Djemila Tassin, 39th Prototype Boat in Saint-François: “It’s such a big thing that I still can’t get my head round it”
Djemila Tassin (552) crossed the finish line of the second leg of the 23rd edition of the Mini Transat EuroChef in 39th place in the Production boat fleet this Tuesday 16 of Novembre at 03h 20min 2s (UTC). In this way, the skipper of Kairos took 17 days 13 hours 20 minutes and 2 seconds to complete the 2,700 miles of the course between Santa Cruz de La Palma and Saint-François. His combined race time for the two legs equates to 29 days 05 hours 43 minutes 38 seconds.
“I can’t get my head around the fact that I’ve finished! Fortunately, there are palm trees and Creole houses to remind me! It’s over too fast, I hadn’t realised, but here I am in the Caribbean! I’ve been dreaming of this for the past five years. It’s really something! It was hard but it was really good. In fact, I don’t know. I have mixed emotions. I’ve experienced so many different feelings and emotions that I don’t have a word to sum it all up. It was very hard at the start. I cried a lot. I had no idea where I was. I was completely lost. After that, I just immersed myself in the race, but then I lost my big spinnaker. At that point I just chilled and at the end that really worked well. I enjoyed myself, though I admit that I found the last few days a bit hardcore. I said to myself that I wouldn’t do the Mini Transat again, but in fact, yes, I do want to! (laughs) Of course, I’ll first need to digest all this, because it’s quite something. There are moments where I said to my camera “don’t let me do the Transat ever again, please!” but I think I’ll soon forget those moments. It’s such a big thing that I still can’t get my head round it, but it was incredible! Words cannot describe it!”
